Ao Nang, Krabi

Home - Journeys - Thailand 2023 - Ao Nang, Krabi

The boulevard.

Boats.

Boats.

Ao Nang is a seaside town in Krabi province. The place is part of the Mueang Krabi district, the capital of the province of the same name.

The place itself, and of course we didn't see it completely, mainly consists of a very busy main street, which partly runs along the beach.
Along the street we mainly see activities aimed at tourism, such as restaurants, bars, shops, travel agencies and massage parlours. We have not yet seen restaurants that offer authentic Thai food here. Many restaurants have a happy hour 24 hours a day. And lots of Indian dishes.
Furthermore, Ao Nang is very abundant with hotels, resorts, guesthouses and other sleeping accommodations.

The beach, which, unlike many other beaches in Thailand, does not contain beach chairs and dining facilities, is long and wide.
Many boat trips are offered from the beach to islands in the area and to beaches that cannot be reached by car. Parts are marked everywhere where boats are not allowed and where it is therefore safe to swim.

We have the impression that Ao Nang is dominated by tourism.

Fortunately, there is also another side to Ao Nang, namely Hat Nopparat Thara. This is both a beach at Ao Nang and a national park, and we're talking about the beach here.
It is much quieter here, both on the boulevard and on the beach. There are hotels, restaurants and shops, but not nearly as many. And you can eat Thai dishes there.
This suits us more. But we do wonder how long this beach will remain quiet.

We were here on Thursday, January 26, 2023, on Friday, January 27, 2023, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, on Sunday, January 29, 2023, on Monday, January 30, 2023, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, on Thursday, February 2, 2023, on Friday, February 3, 2023, on Saturday, February 4, 2023, and on Sunday, February 5, 2023.
